I create handbuilt as well as wheel-thrown pieces, most often using white stoneware. I mix most of my own glazes and fire at high temperature. I’ve acquired deep respect for the constant balance of wet vs dry, thin vs thick, delicate vs durable.
Because clay is a basic, humble material, I prefer creating simple, functional pottery that has a natural place in a person’s everyday life. My intention is to bring beauty into everyday objects so my pottery is a distinct pleasure to use. I especially love carving, slip decorating, and texturing moist clay.
I have deep respect for the “rustic” aspects of life—those hard-working, calloused, unpretentious, earthy aspects that support and enrich our lives and spirits. My glaze palette represents forest, water, rock, and earth—natural elements that greatly inspire me. I strive to make my handmade pottery a personal gift, something that connects my heart with yours.
